a strip cup (commonly known as foremilk strip cup) is a simple tool used during milking to examine the first streams of milk from each teat before attaching the milking unit.
Its main purposes are:
Detect mastitis early: The first milk is stripped into the cup and checked for flakes, clots, watery milk, or other abnormalities that can indicate mastitis.
Stimulate milk let-down: Stripping the first few streams helps stimulate the cow’s natural milk ejection reflex.
Reduce contamination: Abnormal milk can be identified and discarded before it enters the bulk milk supply.
A typical strip cup consists of:
A black-colored base or screen, which makes clots and flakes easier to see.
A shallow cup or reservoir to collect the stripped milk.
Usually made of plastic or stainless steel for easy cleaning and durability.
